The world of FX makeup

The world of fx makeup has been a passion of mine for quite some time, as it must be for anyone entering this field of work. Although it is possible to have a career creating monsters without any formal education, it makes entrance into the industry much more difficult. The purpose of this blog is to inform people like myself in five different course options to learn about the art.
The five course options I have chosen include one mail in option, and four schools the student attends. The five schools I have chosen are; Dick Smith’s basic/advanced classes (mail in work), Tom Savini's Special Effects Makeup Program , The Blanche Macdonald Centre, and Complections International Academy of Makeup Artistry. Before starting schooling with either method there are some basic amenities you will need, and may need when attending a school for FX makeup at any institution. “If you are going to be a make-up artist, you will need a place where you can practice. Even if you go to a school, you'll need to practice afterwards and prepare appliances, etc. for jobs. A small area with a worktable, chair, adequate lighting and a sink as near as possible is minimum”(Smith, 2011). When you go to an actual school, you will be given a work space, bench, and wash area, but you will still be required to complete assignments outside of the classroom setting. It is a good idea to find an area that has all of these same things, or at least an area where you can install them. “I remember a young make-up woman who built workbenches on three sides of her small bedroom and slept in a sleeping bag under one of them!  Now that's dedication!”(Smith, 2011). Everything other than that previously mentioned you should be able to purchase through your school of choice. The following posts, will hopefully aid you in your decision
